3-Day Safari in Akagera Game Drive Experience

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be met by our driver guide at your hotel or at the airport. After a short briefing, you will embark on a scenic drive eastwards to Akagera National Park, a beautiful savannah park bordering Tanzania. Upon arrival, check in at Akagera Game Lodge and freshen up. In the afternoon, head out for a half game drive where you may spot elephants, antelopes, and zebras before continuing to Lake Ihema for a breathtaking sunset boat trip. The lake is home to hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife, offering a perfect introduction to Akagera’s unique ecosystem. After the excursion, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, set off for a rewarding morning game drive along the lakeside road, where chances are high to encounter giraffes, buffaloes, topis, waterbucks, and even lions or leopards if lucky. The drive provides spectacular views of rolling savannah plains, woodland, and wetland habitats that make Akagera so diverse. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will enjoy another exciting boat safari on Lake Ihema, which offers fantastic sightings of hippos wallowing, crocodiles sunbathing, and large flocks of water birds such as herons, African jacanas, and kingfishers. As evening falls, head out again for a thrilling night game drive with spotlights, an opportunity to see hyenas, civets, bush babies, and other nocturnal wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart for a full-day game drive exploring deeper into the northern plains of Akagera, an area teeming with wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Drive towards Lake Rwanyakazinga, a haven for hippos, crocodiles, and numerous water birds, including African fish eagles, cormorants, and kingfishers. Continue across the sweeping grasslands and the Kirara plains in the north, known for large herds of elephants, zebras, and antelopes grazing freely in the open. With some luck, you may encounter lions or rhinos, completing the Big Five experience. Later in the afternoon, exit the park through the northern gate and drive back to Kigali, where your guide will drop you off at your hotel or airport for your onward journey.
