The park is located in Northern Tanzania, 126 km west of Arusha town along the Makuyuni-Ngorongoro road, strategically located along the high way to Ngorongoro and Serengeti and is easily accessible by road and air (charter or scheduled flights). The park is close to the ethnically diverse town of Mto wa Mbu in which a representation of the 120 tribes of Tanzania is found.
Lake Manyara National Park is known for the flamingos that inhabit the lake. During the wet season they flock in thousands changing the colour of the Lake Manyara into pink. No doubt when it comes to birds in Manyara, the flamingoes top the list yet apart from it some 400 species of birds inhabit in the park and most of them are found in most part of the year making the park a good spot for the bird watching. Visitors to the park can expect to see upwards of 100 different species of bird on any day. The most famous sight in the park is the tree-climbing lions, which are occasionally seen along branches of acacia trees. Other animals found in the park include buffalo, elephants, leopards, baboons, impala, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, ostrich and hippos.
